Lost in Space Robot

In honor of the new Lost in Space movie (which will be released on April 3, 1998) we will be featuring several Lost in Space - related robots during the coming year. We are proud to begin by featuring a robot that was built from scratch by Douglas Vaters.

Douglas says:
"This is a hand-built replica of the Lost in Space Robot Model B9. The Robot is to 1:1 scale. It is 7 feet tall. The Robot was not a kit, although a kit can be bought from a guy in California that cost $15,000.00. That was too much for my budget and I felt better that I built it from scratch. The only parts that I could not build were the bubble, the claws and wrists, the collar section, and the neon for the chest light -- that's it. The rest was built from rubber, plastic, bondo, and wood. The name of the builders are Mr. Douglas P. Vaters and Mr. John Runion (helper through the whole project). The sizes and measurements came from Dewey Howard, an email friend in Michigan. The cost for me was about $3,000.00 to build the robot and I still have a way to go."
